Tarzan's Treehouse...

Last night, Mitch and I took a little stroll through Disneyland hoping the labor process would get going...alas, no James.

But right before we left the park, Mitch stopped and pointed to the entrance of "Tarzan's Treehouse". We had heard/read somewhere that stairs are a labor commencing tool that might get the ball rolling...so up to the treetops we went!

Needless to say, we had to take a lot of breaks so I could catch my breath (and let families go past us because of my snail pace).

When we finished the treehouse, I was more than willing to head home. Whew! I seriously felt like I had ran a mile! We even had to stop and rest at a bench before we left so I could get some energy!

So with 3 days away from my due date, and a Dr's appointment tomorrow morning, we shall see if James will be here soon! How exciting to think that at the end of this week we might have a baby boy in our arms!

What's Nesting?

Well, let's just say it's a roller coaster of cleaning everything from top to bottom, and doing things you normally would put off for weeks or even months (if you're anything like me), all to prepare your home for the little bundle of joy. Whew! With that said, here's a list of "nesting"tasks I am telling myself I MUST DO as soon as physically, emotionally and accurately as possible...

Print out photos from events ranging from 2007-this past Christmas
Frame & hang those photos, or put them snuggly into a photo album
Finish James' room (A BIG TASK TO FINISH) which includes: Paint James' bookshelf, hang paintings and other "Cowboy/Indian" themed objects, start/finish his shadow box, buy a soft lit lamp, wash his remaining sheets, blankets & clothes
Paint the newly purchased raw wood IKEA kitchen table chairs
Secure the bookcases to the wall in the living room
Make sure the BBQ is put together & on the balcony for all those yummy meals we can't wait to enjoy this summer!
Take Teddy to get groomed one last time before James' gets here
Take any extra plates, clothes, linen etc. we aren't using to the Goodwill
Purchase a lamp for the living room
Hang the mirror in the living room

And I think that might be it, but who knows, the list might grow 2x by tomorrow!

In Just 31 Days...

Our little family of three, will be a little family of four! Eek! And we are so amazed at how many people already have so much love for James!

For instance, this past weekend our photographing friend Erin Pifer asked if she could document this amazing time in our lives, and we of course said YES!

Here they are...I hope you love them 1/2 as much as we do!

32 weeks...

Ahhhh! In only 8 short weeks this little boy we have been dreaming of, preparing for, and LOVING will be in our arms! I can't believe how fast time has flown by! I've been so worried about his development and how he has progressed as the weeks have gone by, that I have completely failed to realize how precious our time together (mine & James) really is. To know he has been safe & secure in my womb, growing into this beautiful baby boy is a little overwhelming since he is almost here! We have so many dreams and hopes for this little boy, I can't begin to tell you how many there are. Let's just say, the first dream has already happened, him just being alive and growing on the inside.

And so as we prepare for this coming week of Christmas, it has been such an honor to be pregnant at this special time of year. I am reminded of the Virgin birth and hear phrases like, "a waking baby in her womb", and think, "Hey! That's like me!" It really is an amazing gift that God gives women, and I am truly thankful for it (despite all the aches and weird things that happen to your body).

So Merry Christmas week y'all! Let's get this party started!

Baby showers 1 + 2...

I have been showered with love from friends and family TWICE so far (I say so far because my mother in-law Rita is also showering me in the near future), and let's just say there are a ton of people that love our little James so much already!

In Arizona, I was able to spend time with my beautiful mama, fantastic aunts, and of course those closest and best of friends I've known since the 3rd grade! It was so nice to spend the afternoon with these ladies as we played games, ate cake, and of course opened gifts for James...

In California, I was blessed yet again, except instead of cake we had delicious cupcakes made by pastry extraordinaire Miss Emily Berger. My dear friend Cristina orchestrated the whole shin dig, and I love her for it! The baby shower was Cowboys + Indians themed, and I think she did an amazing job at decorating, don't you think?

Needless to say, I have the best family and friends. Love you all.

Happy Birthday Teddy!

Today is my Teddy's 3rd birthday, which would make him 21 in dog years! My little pup is growing up, and with that came some tears today. Sure, it's because I'm pregnant and full of tears these days, but it's also because I love this little guy so much. He's been our baby for 3 years, and now with James on the way, I can't imagine my life any sweeter. A human baby & a pup baby sounds just perfect!

And I'll never forget the day we met our Teddy. It was Christmas eve three years ago, and he was fast asleep in a cardboard box, while his brothers and sisters attacked our ankles for attention. But when it came down to choosing our furry baby, we chose the one that ignored us the entire time & slept on his back, with his chubby belly in the air. It was honestly one of the best decisions Mitch & I have ever made together!

So happy birthday Teddy, we love you!

First off, we had our first newborn baby care class on Tuesday night. Mitch & I learnt to bathe a baby, change a diaper, and my favorite...SWADDLE! Not gonna toot my own horn or anything, but I'm pretty sure I've inherited my moms gift of swaddling. Mitch was impressed, let's just hope James is too when the time comes!

This weekend we are going to look for James' changing table/dresser. We've been throwing stuff away, selling stuff & reorganizing our little 1 bedroom home to accommodate this little guy. I guess it's called 'nesting', and it has honestly been so refreshing to get rid of junk!

So here's to a fun filled weekend of an early morning shift at work, a Disneyland date night, church, & of course, nesting & prepping for James Arthur. So much babyness.

The weeks to come...

are pretty eventful!

First off, this week we will be packing up and hitting the open road for one more HURRAH before James gets here. I won't spoil the surprise as to where it is we are venturing to, but here's a clue.

Next week is already the end of October...what?! I know. We haven't even picked out pumpkins yet! We are planning a yard sale on Saturday the 29th to make room for James & all of his fun stuff, so some things we will be getting rid of include: a kitchen table, table stools, chairs, TV cabinet, clothes, tools, blankets, shoes, books, paintings! LOTS of stuff. So come over! Buy our used goods & enjoy!

The week after that is the first week of November, which means the beginning of BABY CARE CLASSES which we will have every week until Christmas eve! Like I said, pretty eventful!

And tonight we kick off the beginning of all things baby related by registering at Target! Whew. I'm already tired. But you know what? I wouldn't trade lives with anyone. I am so grateful for my family and friends, and most importantly for the Lord's goodness. Seems a little underrated, but seriously-I AM.

As I finish this post James is kicking and I love the fact I feel more pregnant-er (it's a word) by the day!

we find out if baby is a boy or girl!

We have been dreaming about what baby will look like, and we wonder if baby will have my chin, or Mitch's height (6 feet tall!), or my wavy brown hair, or Mitch's jet black semi-straight hair, or my oddly white fingernails, or Mitch's super long fingers, or my awesome dance moves, or Mitch's chuckle?

It's so much fun thinking of who this baby will resemble, or how much trouble they will get in (I was pretty mischievous, while Mitch was born a 30 year old man), and whether or not they will need to sleep with a night light, or laugh at the funny things Mitch and I say to each other when we are half asleep chatting in bed.

Either way, we can't wait! We love our baby so much already, it's crazy to think he or she will be in our arms in only 4 months!

Last Friday night, Mitch & I went to Disneyland for a few hours, and in the watch store, low & behold hanging out above our heads---RAVENS! (and a cute vintage Halloween themed pennant).

Sunday afternoon, Mitch & I went to Barnes and Noble and picked out baby's first book...

I got so excited thinking of reading to our little baby as they are snuggled up in bed!

The Grand Canyon...

Last weekend, Mitch & I hopped in the car and headed for Arizona!

We drove to Williams, a small town about 2 hours away from the Grand Canyon, and stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel.

The next morning, we took a train up to the canyon, and oh, my, goodness! THERE it was! The GRAND canyon indeed! When I looked over at Mitch to check out his reaction, all he said was "Whoaaa" with his jaw dropped!

We stayed the night at the canyon and watched the sunset & sunrise. We both agreed the sunrise was amazing. The colors and shadows and layers of fog---so beautiful.

My favorite part of the trip was the hike we took into the canyon (nothing terribly long, being pregnant and hiking isn't necessarily the easiest task). On the 5 minute hike, we found petroglyphs!

Oh, and this sweet sign that pretty much sums up the Grand Canyon...

Huntington Dog Beach...

Last Friday night, we took off to the Huntington Dog Beach where Mitch & Teddy had a blast in the ocean, while I watched from a comfortable blanket on the sand.

Teddy was such a good boy! He listened to us off the leash, played with other pups and even waded in the ocean after sticks!

Needless to say, it was a great time had by all! Have you taken your pup here yet?

I found this little gem at Borders on Sunday, The Secret Lives of Great Artists. At first I wasn't completely sure about this book. I wondered if it was going to be like the Weekly inTouch Magazine for artists, but as I thumbed through it, I was actually surprised by the accuracy and humor!

A Green Thumb?

Nope. Not this lady. I have never had a plant (other than a Homer Simpson Chia Pet) survive longer than a few weeks.

So you can imagine my surprise when tiny buds on my flower bush began to bloom, which ultimately transformed into this...

What the what? My thoughts exactly. The crazy thing is, I paid $4 for this plant last summer when it had only a few blooming flowers, and I haven't watered it or taken it into the shade or given it special attention at all!

Thanks Mother Nature, I owe you one!

Today marks the second month of what seems to be the most interesting, wonderful, scary, and exciting things to have ever happened to me...

all the while sharing this experience with my best friend and wonderful husband!

Summer Foodies: Fudgesicles

I have been craving these chocolatey popsicles thanks to the weather getting warmer & warmer, and thanks to our pal Steve for bringing them to life group on Tuesday.

I found this recipe over at Raw Food Passion and I can't wait to try it out!

Fudgesicles:

Ingredients: 1 avocado, 1 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of raw chocolate powder.

Directions: Mix all of the ingredients in a blender or vitamixer. Taste to see if it is sweet enough or chocolaty enough and if it is pour it into your popsicle molds. This amount is enough to make four popsicles for the mold in the picture. Freeze for 5 hours and then enjoy with friends!

It's that time again. Yup, time for some new eyeglasses. Which ones do you love? I need some suggestions, even though 3/5 of these are pretty similar, it's always nice to hear what your friends have to say about what goes on your face...you know, since they have to look at it all the time.

Pardon the silly faces, I just can't take a normal photo. It's a gift/curse.

Star Wars: In Concert!

Yes, we unleashed our inner geek at Star Wars: In Concert! at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night...

The light sabers were a perfect touch...

That is the name of her book...the one that I would like to own someday(hint hint). Mary is a fantastic artist & I know I've already written about her at least once, but here is a new artwork I found while doing an assignment (I will also be sharing that with you soon).

This is "Baby Ballet" & was an abandoned project by Disney.

These little ladies are precious & so chubby, they make you want to squeeze the canvas.

This past week while Mitch and my brother were away in Oakland on business, I was able to share my home with my sister-in-law & her precious babies, Addison & Bobby. I kicked into aunt mode for 5 whole days...and I loved it!

On Thursday we went to Disneyland where Addison, Bobby & Adriana experienced their first trip at the happiest place on earth! Of course we had to go on the Jungle Cruise to see where their daddy told jokes (over & over)...

And of course lollipops were involved...

And what would a trip to the magic kingdom be without seeing the fireworks? By the way, I love this photo---Addison kept saying "Tinkerbell! Tinkerbell! Hi Tinkerbell!" to every firework in the sky...until Tinkerbell made her appearance, in which case Addi said, "TIIIIIINKERBEEEELLL!!!" in the most cutest, excited voice you ever heard. Ever.

Friday night was spaghetti night, and I have to admit, I haven't had that much fun on a Friday night in a really long time. Who knew kids + spaghetti could be so fun? I mean, just LOOK at this little boys face!

And Addison definitely knows how to eat spaghetti like a pro, check out that cheek action...

On Saturday night we went on a mini road trip to L.A where we all had a Pink's hot dog, and went to the Griffith Observatory. Even though we didn't get a chance to see the Super Moon, it was worth the trip, and the sight of L.A all lit up.

PS- The house is too quiet these days. Little feet and loud voices are missed, especially hugs + kisses. My heart was sad, and I have to admit, Teddy has been moping around these past two days too :(

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, or better known as simply Caravaggio, is without a doubt, my absolute favorite artist. I was saving him for the final week, but I just couldn't help myself.

Before I ever feasted my eyes on this painting, I imagined Paul's conversion to look exactly like this. Seriously. So you can imagine my reaction when I saw this painting for the first time, and now every time I see it, I get so excited, I do a lil' dance inside.

Plus, check out that lighting? Wow. Just wow. That's what the art world calls chiaroscuro (the arrangement or treatment of light and dark parts in a pictorial work of art). And did I mention Caravaggio was 31 when he painted this? YES...31!

Le sigh, I love.

what a perfect weekend.

Friday we spent the day together. A little bit of shopping, a little bit of chatting, a little bit of sniffling (I had a 48 hr. bug).

Saturday we had a hot date...I'm talking dinner and a movie. We went to The Old Spaghetti Factory a few blocks away from our house and even though it's a restaurant chain, it's so yum! And I loved the creepy dinner table across from us...

After dinner, we drove to Anaheim where we found a gem of a theatre that only charges $6! We saw a little ol' movie called THE KING'S SPEECH! And all I can is, whoa. My heart ached for Colin Firth the entire time and I loved him for it. Very powerful stuff...

taken before the movie...did I mention we had the ENTIRE theatre to ourselves? I pretended we were royalty while we watched "The King's Speech" in our private home theatre :)

Sunday we slept until noon (thanks time change), and then we packed up the pup & headed for Old towne Orange where we walked around, had lunch here and geocached.

Impressionism was an art movement that developed in France in the 19th Century. The Impressionists were seen as a group of outcasts..."unified only by its independence from the official annual Salon for which a jury of artists from the Académie des Beaux-Arts selected artworks and awarded medals." Impressionism is often recognizable by its sketched look, but loved for its depiction of everyday life.

Today as I was looking for this image online, Mitch peeked over and said, "You know what I realized today? That she's worried about something. Look at how she is fiddling with the cradle's covering." And you know what? I couldn't agree more. A mother's worry & love for her child is depicted in this painting, and I love how Morisot captured this private moment between momma & child. So precious.

PS- I have a canvas re-print of The Cradle hanging above my dresser in our room...it's one of my most cherished treasures.

I love...

birds chirping in the treetops, flowers in bloom (especially the ones in my flower pots from last year), the smell of honeysuckles, the smell of freshly cut grass, Teddy running to the water hose after a warm walk, hikes with my boys, fresh flowers on a table, squirrels poking their heads out from tree trunks making sure Teddy doesn't see them, taking a nap with the front door open & feeling a light breeze while my eyes are closed (really love this), still being able to wear a light coat in the evening, and finally...the days are longer & brighter which means we're closer to summer, which means...

I'll save that last part for summer.

Craft Nite...

My dear friend Erin hosted all the ladies from our life-group to come over for dinner + a craft.

Craft: do-it-yourself floral hair clips

Materials: fabric (satin/silk); buttons, pearls or sequins; scissors; hot glue; alligator clips or bobby pins

1. Start cutting circles out of the fabric. It helps to start with a small circle, then work your way up to bigger circles. You should have about 5-8 circles, and your table will look something like this:

2. Next, burn the edges of the cut circles:

3. Then glue the petals together with a hot glue gun, and place a button, pearl or sequence in the middle like this:

4. After the petals + center piece are glued together, glue a bobby pin or alligator clip to the back, and voila! You did it yourself!

Work it, girl.

I know...it's a little different. But the interesting thing is this artwork was made thousands and thousands of years ago & and the figure's purpose continues to be a mystery! The simplicity of the carving and the detail of the woman is what makes this one of my favorite paleolithic artworks.

a Starbucks breakfast right before a road trip, traveling through the desert on a rainy day (the smell of wet earth is glorious), singing along to Feist with my husband, having dinner with my aunt & uncle, walking 2 pups named Teddy & June, waking up in the bedroom where I played dolls as a young girl, having breakfast with my dad and step mom, kisses from my nephew, going to the mall and seeing the Superstition Mountains in the background (truly beautiful), shopping with my husband, Filiberto's taquitos, photographing my brothers family, hearing my niece say "Tia Ana & Uncle Mitch", hugs from my youngest brother, seeing my nana and tata twice in one week, being thankful and blessed for all of the above.

Today I woke up and immediately took Teddy on a little stroll through the neighborhood (his bladder is smaller than mine).

Then I picked up the house a bit, made breakfast, and dove into Job, Morning & Evening & BIG GOD...

Now, here I am jotting away about how great mornings are. What separates mornings like today from any other morning? Time spent with the one who loves spending time with us. Period. No doubt about it...I absolutely believe this is what makes mornings such as this wonderful.

This is my darling sister Moriah Hannah.
Today she is 14 years old!

The greatest of memories I have shared with this little lady are the following:

Choosing her middle name on the day she was born.

Making her cry when she was 4 because I said yes to the question "Are you popular?" Apparently all the popular kids in her favorite cartoons were mean and she didn't want me to be mean.

When she was around the age of 5, she stood outside with a little piece of paper. When I went out to the patio to see what she was up to, she said, "I want to show people Jesus so they will know he loves them." I looked at the paper in her hand which said, "See Jesus $1". I asked, "How are you going to show them Jesus, and why is it $1?" Moriah replied, "I will pray with them, and then they will know Jesus. The dollar is so they will come to me."

The day she said "Hey Ana, listen to this..." and she played a worship song on guitar---free of error & full of passionate singing. It was beautiful.

When she calls me and we pray together.

Happy birthday Moriah!

I love you, and you are my little (big) sister because I learn so much from you.

Last Saturday, my museum buddy and I took a little trip out to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). It was nice to use my membership and explore more of their collection.

This is Jeff Koons. He is the man when it comes to Neo-pop art!

"...Jeff Koons creates 'reliquaries' of vacuum cleaners, basketballs, and other store-bought products. His kitschy ceramic sculptures of religious and pop cultural icons-like Michael Jackson holding Bubbles, his pet chimpanzee-at once coyly satirize and fully embrace consumer culture."- LACMA wall label

A few years ago, Koons was invited to display his art at Versailles, the very same place Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI were given the boot once the French Revolution was in full swing. Check out this video to see some of these artworks featured at Versailles.

It's here, it's here, it's finally here!

And I can't keep up.

Actually, I am trying my best to keep up, it's just happening so fast. I want time to slow down a little so I can soak up the Christmas-y events and cherish them.

Alas, this past week was made up of a few mentionable Christmas events...

We went to the last movie showing at the Fox Theatre and I know the suspense is killing you so I'll just tell you what the movie was....

HOME ALONE!

It was freezing, but oh so worth it. I didn't need my fingers or toes anyway...

And tonight we got our freshly cut Douglas Fir Christmas tree!

Doug is about 5 foot tall, and has a few funky branches that are really long, actually, they are seriously long. But we still love him...

And tomorrow night we will be attending our traditional trip to Disneyland Park to see the Candlelight Ceremony where the nativity story is read straight from the bible. Accompanied by a full on choir and orchestra, It. Is. Amazing.

It really puts the entire season into perspective for me, not to mention the fact we sing hymns/traditional Christmas music together as one big crowd. Every year I wonder to myself if that is what heaven will be like, unified voices praising the Lord... so amazing.

God is so good to our little family, and we love Christmas time so much, see?

In celebration of Mitch's birth, we took a little trip last weekend to Lake Arrowhead...we love it there.

In the evening, I surprised him by taking him out to Cheesecake Factory, and guess what...some of our amazing friends were there to celebrate with us!

And then it was time for Mitch's gift from me (and his parents, and my mom)...

Yes, sorta...until he saw the iPad inside! I carved some pages out & hid the iPad inside the TIME book! Needless to say, he was surprised.

My nephew, Baby Bobby IV, gave me a kiss within minutes of picking him up! Last time I saw this little guy he was only 2 months old, now he's giving kisses!

And my niece Addison? Well, she is just a doll. So sweet & tiny, she makes hearts melt...

We (Nina, Mom, Andre, Addison, Mitch & I) all went out to eat at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Downtown Phoenix, a place we have gone since I can remember!

We also went to The Heard Museum. Check out these kachinas!

We also went to visit my Dad & little brother Marcos. Dad suggested we get some Mexican food...nothing like good ol' Filiberto's!

And we even spent some time at my brother Bobby's job- AIRWORX! Ever played dodge ball on a trampoline? Well here you can! So much fun, you leave with beet colored faces!

Even though I miss my family like crazy, the days we share are the best & full of laughter and love.

We are busy!

With only 7 weeks left of school, this means only 8 weeks until Christmas!

But for now, we are preparing for a little road trip to Arizona. I am doing a research paper on American Indian art, and one of the best museums featuring contemporary American Indian art is in Phoenix. This also means I get to see friends and family!

In spirits of the season around the corner, we snagged a little sweater for Teddy for $5. I love the reindeer on the back, so sweet. Not as sweet as Teddy laying his head on Mitch's head. How cute are these guys?

I had such a great birthday-celebration-weekend-extravaganza! So relaxing...

Not only did Mitch get me a fugifilm instant camera for my birthday, he also booked a room for 1 night at the Grand Californian Hotel. So luxurious & relaxing...I felt like a millionaire :)

We checked in, then headed to the Craftsman's Club where I received a gift card from my momma...

Here's Mitch enjoying the view from the 6th floor inside the Craftsman's Club (free snacks & beverages, as well as a free beer & wine hour)...

With the gift card my mom gave me, we decided dinner with a view was a must...

The dinner came with a neat little tray of amazing desserts, including a sneak preview of the World of Color show...

Ended the night with a nice warm bubble bath, hotel magazine & a white russian...

So last Saturday our life group threw a "back-to-school" BBQ for the Richman neighborhood in Fullerton. It was a lot of fun! There were over 150 hotdogs, chips & water bottles given out to the community, as well as face painting & free photobooth pictures for the kiddos.
